Attention is a foundational skill for learning.
Without strong attention skills, it can be difficult to learn, because attention is critical to self-control, working memory, and cognitive flexibility - known collectively as Executive Function skills.
Children struggle with these skills because of increased workload, busy environments, genes, autism, ADHD and many other reasons. The good news is that attention skills can be strengthened (even in children with already good or average attention and focus skills). And, with the right intervention, a child with autism or ADHD can improve attention and reduce distractions.
BrainLeap's attention training exercises, developed at the University of California in San Diego, can help children achieve more. Attention Arcade™ consists of six game based exercises that each train a different aspect of attention and focus (and even inhibitory control, visual discrimination, visual span, etc.), and can be done from the age of 5 years.
Each exercise has been developed to integrate with the latest eye-tracking technology. All exercises are hands-free and all exercises are executed with only using the student’s eyes.
Attention training can have a big impact on a child, and even more so on children with attention challenges. Regardless of why they have attention challenges, attention strengthening exercises can make a significant difference.

Researchers at the University of California, San Diego have been perfecting the technology for years and in May 2019, the training system became available to the public. BrainLeap seems to have found the perfect recipe because kids are learning to stay focused, all while having fun! BrainLeap Attention Arcade™ is supported by four levels of assessment which are presented at different intervals:
First assessment after 60 minutes of screen participation
Second assessment after 7 hours of screen participation
Third assessment after 12 hours of screen participation
Thereafter – assessment every 4 hours of screen participation
Examples of assessment measures:
A sensitive measure of covert orienting speed
Speed of response
Task switching ability
Time and accuracy of the player’s ability to orient attention to a peripheral stimulus
The Assessment support is not relevant to making any diagnoses, the assessment are best used to measure a student's improvement from one assessment to the next.
The assessments measure whether children are getting better at different attention skills and not just getting better at playing the games. This is called transfer.
Published Program Study Results:
In a pilot clinical trial for children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) at the University of California, San Diego, doing the exercises on average resulted in a:
68% increase in the attention orienting
55% increase in inhibitory control
and for those students who also had ADHD symptoms, there was a 30% improvement in focus
These results were measured by independent attention assessments and have been published in the peer-reviewed journal Developmental Neurobiology*.
